Connections & getting started

Will it work
with your dairy?

Bring your DairyComp herd records, EZFeed feeding data, and MilkMoovement pickup records into the dashboard. Let’s look at what is available for your dairy.

01 / Your existing records

Connections with
a working foundation.

HerdOptix integrates with DairyComp, EZFeed, and MilkMoovement. We’ll review your available records and access to connect them to your dashboard.

Herd records

DairyComp

Animal records, breeding events, calvings and other herd events for production, reproduction and health reviews.

What we’ll check

Existing connections use the VAS API and selected DairyComp exports. We need to check your access, available records and export configuration.

Which DairyComp version do you use, and who manages its data access?

Creamery pickups

MilkMoovement

Pickup volumes and available milk-quality results to put shipped milk alongside the herd’s performance.

What we’ll check

The existing connection retrieves producer records from MilkMoovement. We need to confirm your creamery’s portal, permissions and available fields.

Which creamery receives your milk, and how do you access pickup and quality records?

Feed records

EZFeed

Rations, feeding records and ingredient data to support intake and feed-cost reviews where those records are available.

What we’ll check

Existing imports use EZFeed data access. We need to review your account, pen mapping and the cost records needed for the reports you want.

Which feeding software do you use, and where are ingredient costs maintained?

Using another system? Tell us what you have. We’re looking for access to more platforms and data types—APIs, exports, and other farm records. Tell us what you can access and what would be useful in your dashboard.

02 / Getting started

From your first question
to your first review.

A clear starting scope makes it easier to judge whether HerdOptix is useful to your operation.

  1. 01

    Start with a question

Choose the first review you want to improve: milk performance, the next breeder meeting, herd health or feed economics.

  2. 02

    Check your records

Review your systems, access permissions, history and available fields. Agree on the connection work, scope and costs before setup.

  3. 03

    Validate the first report

Compare the imported records with your source reports. Check animal and pen IDs, units, dates and the definitions behind the numbers.

  4. 04

    Put it into your routine

Decide who reviews the report, which advisors should participate and what follow-up looks like. Start with a useful review and expand from there.

Do I keep DairyComp and my existing systems?

Yes. The herd-data connections bring records from existing systems into HerdOptix for analysis and reporting. Continue maintaining records in your source systems; discuss any separate workflow changes during scoping.

What if my system isn’t listed?

We’re actively looking to connect more platforms and data types. If you can provide access to an API, an export, or another useful data source, get in touch. Tell us what system you use and what you want to see in the dashboard.

How current will the data be?

It depends on the source. Scheduled imports, local connections and pickup records update differently. Confirm a refresh schedule for each connection during setup; a current dashboard can still contain records from different reporting periods.

Will I need hardware or someone on the farm to help?

Some sources use account access; others need scheduled exports or help from the person who manages your farm systems. We’ll identify the setup needed for your available records.

Can you import historical records?

The available history depends on the source system and the records it can provide. We need to review the date range and completeness before promising historical comparisons. Missing records can change what a trend or rate means.

How long does setup take, and what does it cost?

Timing and cost depend on the connections, data cleanup and reports in scope. Contact Seth for a discussion of your operation and a scoped proposal. New operations are currently onboarded in small batches.

Can my vet, nutritionist or other advisor be involved?

Yes—bring them into the compatibility conversation and identify the reports they need. Agree which records should be shared and what access is appropriate for each person before inviting them into the workflow.

You don’t need to send farm records to make an initial inquiry. A few details about your setup are enough to start.
